MAHA OBJECTIVES
- To develop and implement humane and educational programs within the State of Missouri that will enhance and publicize the best animal husbandry practices within the State of Missouri for the benefit all responsible breeders and owners of animals, to include, but not be limited to dog and cat breeders and farmers who raise animals that are used for sustaining our food supply throughout the United States.
- To develop and sustain a viable industry within the State of Missouri for the production and marketing of quality Missouri-bred animals that are used as pets; used for law enforcement and security purposes; used as service or therapy dogs; used as food sources; used for farming and agricultural purposes; used for transportation purposes, and used for sporting and exhibition purposes.
- To promote awareness of existing and proposed laws and regulations that pertain to any and all aspects of animal husbandry, including, but not limited to breeding standards and all standards that relate to the care and welfare of all animals covered by the relevant laws and regulation.
- To respond to all inquiries from Federal, State, or Local Government Officials with respect to any existing or proposed laws or regulations, and TO endeavor to ensure that all such Officials are made aware of all facts and issues that are relevant to any of the above referenced proposed and existing or proposed laws or regulations.
- To undertake public service initiatives that will accurately reflect and will enhance a positive image of all responsible breeders and owners of animals in the State of Missouri, to include not only all MAHA Members, but all responsible breeders and owners of animals in the State of Missouri.
MAHA CODE OF ETHICS
CODE OF ETHICS MAHA MEMBERS WILL:
- Conscientiously adopt and implement sound animal husbandry practices for the care and well being of all animals that they breed or raise in their homes, kennels, catteries and on their farms.
- Provide veterinary care for their animals when such care is appropriate or necessary.
- Implement disease control measures that are recognized within the animal husbandry community to be effective in controlling diseases.
- Maintain appropriate housing, sanitation and cleanliness standards and practices in the areas where their animals are housed.
- Ensure that daily inspections of all animals under their control are conducted.
- Ensure that a daily supply of food and water is provided to their animals.
- Ensure that, when appropriate, humane methods are used to dispose of any animal under their care.
- Ensure that all persons who care for their animals have received basic instructions and training on how best to care for the animals.
- Avail themselves of Educational and Informational Seminars and Literature provided by the MAHA and other responsible providers of educational information that is intended to enhance the quality of care provided to animals under their care.
- Seek to minimize the inherent stress associated with the transportation of any animals from their home, kennel, cattery or farm to their final destination.
- Not mistreat their animals.
- Make sound decisions with respect to all aspects of breeding and raising their animals.
- Conduct all business transactions in an ethical manner.
- Strive to ensure that they are in compliance with all applicable Federal, State or Local Laws and Regulations that apply to the animals under their care.
- Comply with the Provisions as set out in the MAHA Code of Ethics, and the MAHA By-Laws.
- Acknowledge that if they fail to comply with the MAHA Code of Ethics, or conduct themselves in a manner that discredits the MAHA, as determined by the MAHA Board of Directors, their Membership in the MAHA may be terminated.

MAHA memberships run from Sept. 30 through Oct. 1 of every year.
